Who could have imagined that when the Boston RedSox played their first game ever on April 26, 1901 that they would become one of the most popular ball teams in MLB history? Originally they were called the Boston Americans until the name change in 1908. This is a team that has certainly had its good and bad times. Initially the team started off quite strong. The Red Sox were one of the first teams in the newly founded AL. For the first eighteen seasons, they were the most triumphant team of the American League. They achieved 1st place in six out of those eighteen seasons. They went to the World Series 5 times in that time period and were crowned world champions every single time. This was all due in part to exceptional management and magnificent pitching.
